Reason #10 | You Are Perfect As You Are.

THERE IS NO OTHER YOU. If you wake up in the morning energized by writing software code, or styling yourself for a blog, or being a chicken nugget scientist (that’s a real job) - that is awesome. You don’t have to be Mother Teresa to be great. I hate to break it to you, but no one will ever do what Mother Teresa did, because she was the only Mother Teresa the universe ever saw. There is no other Maya Angelou, Deepak Chopra, or Beyonce.

You are the only you there is. You are filled with sparkly universe dust and something out here lights you up. Already know what it is? LUCKY! Stop feeling bad about it and run with it. We need you and your sparkly universe dust.

Don’t know what it is? Stop feeling bad about it and start looking for it.

A note about looking for your sparkly universe dust - it’s pretty subtle. You might need to chill out and tune in a little. What makes you weirdly happy?*

*I'm operating on the assumption that the things which make you happy are neutral or good. If the things that make you happy cause harm to others, please seek help ASAP, because that is just distracting you from the things that will make you truly happy.*

What are you always daydreaming about? Who’s life are you wildly jealous of? What embarrassing movie makes you really, really happy? If you add up all the little things that make you happy, do they point to something? Finding the Universe inside you is simple, but not easy. Chill out guys, Neil deGrasse Tyson would totally be on board with what I’m saying, it’s not WooWoo. It’s about paying attention. Paying with your attention. Spending time, with yourself.

The cool thing about travel is that it holds up a giant mirror to your soul and says, “HI! ARE YOU OKAY WITH THIS? WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT? DIFFERENT WORLD THAN WHAT YOU’RE USED TO, RIGHT? ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION? DO YOU LIKE THIS? DO YOU HATE THIS? ARE YOU REALLY FEELING ALIVE EVERY DAY?” Not that your soul-mirror is yelling, but your own limiting beliefs and ideas of “normal” are thrown back in your face when you explore a culture extremely different from your own. It’s great, and a little painful the first time.

Some of these experiences remind you of what you love and who you are, and some of them challenge and open your mind. It’s nearly impossible to walk away from travel without being reminded that everyone lives differently. The trick is to leave realizing every single person is unique - that includes you.

There is no other you, and you are perfect as you are. Can you love all those unique souls around the world? That’s a tall order. Can you start by loving yourself?

There is no other you, and that is your power.
